Judge Raquel West from Jefferson County, Texas, went viral after Sammy Morris showed up in her felony court wearing a shirt that said “Best Farter.”

West is known for her strictness and was not at all pleased with Morris’s choice of clothing. The reason the man was in court is still unknown.

“What made you think this was a good shirt to wear to court this morning?” the judge asked. The word was crossed out on the shirt and underneath it said “meant ‘dad’.”

The man said this was the only clothing he had in his closet. “This was the only shirt you had in your closet?” the judge replied.

He joked that the shirt said “dad,” but she didn’t buy that excuse. “No, it says… I can read. I see what’s written underneath,” she said firmly.

“You’re in a felony court. You need to dress appropriately for a felony court, and this is not appropriate,” West reprimanded.

The judge also warned him for not bringing a lawyer, even though Morris said he couldn’t get in touch with one. She rescheduled the case for 30 days later.

According to Texas rules, participants in hearings, whether lawyers or any of the involved parties, must appear in “appropriate formal attire.”
